The newest recall on the 2026 Toyota Camry landed in August, so I counted the complaints owners have filed on it and the model years around it. Here is what the campaigns actually say, and why the model year alone won't tell you if your car is on the list.
What do the 2026 Camry's recall campaigns actually cover?
Three campaigns, as of September 23, 2026. Oldest to newest:

The newest is the one people are searching for. NHTSA's filing for 26V511000 says the instrument cluster display can fail when a Camry Hybrid starts up. When it does, it can take the hazard lights, turn signals, the seat belt warning light and the smart key reminder down with it, since they all route through that same cluster. Toyota's fix is a free software update at a dealer; owner letters were expected to go out around September 21, 2026.
The other two aren't new news but are still open. 25V869000 covers a hybrid inverter bolt that may not have been torqued properly, which can cut power or, in NHTSA's words, raise the risk of an electrical short and a fire. 25V744000 is a software fix for a rearview camera that can freeze or go blank in reverse, and it isn't Camry-specific: it spans several Toyota, Lexus and Subaru models built with the same camera system.
Does a recall notice mean my Camry is affected?
Not automatically. Every one of the three 2026 Camry campaigns names a slice of the model year, not the whole thing. Two are Hybrid-only. The camera recall applies only to cars built with a specific option. A recall campaign can say "2026 Toyota Camry" in its title and still miss your particular car.
The only way to know for sure:
- Find the 17-character VIN, printed on the driver-side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb, and your registration.
- Enter it at NHTSA's recall lookup.
- Read what comes back. If a campaign number shows up there, it's open on your car. If nothing shows, keep the letter mailing dates above in mind and check again later.
How does the 2026 Camry's complaint count compare with the years around it?
Lower than the 2025, higher than the 2023, 2022 or 2024. As of September 16, 2026, owners had filed 126 NHTSA complaints on the 2026 Camry, against 156 on the 2025, 63 on the 2023, 61 on the 2022 and 48 on the 2024.
These are raw filing counts, not adjusted for how many Camrys Toyota has sold in each model year or how long each has been on the road, so they aren't a reliability ranking. The 2026 is also the newest year here, and it's already drawn more complaints than three of the four years before it despite having had the least time in owners' hands. What do 2026 Camry owners complain about most?
Fuel System, by a wide margin. It's named in 43 of the 126 complaints, or 34.1%. "Other" is next at 24, then Body, Seats & Latches at 23. None of the three open recalls above touch the fuel system, so this isn't the same population of complaints driving the recall news.

What about the 2027 Camry?
Our own check of autocomplete suggestions on September 23 found people typing "is the 2027 camry out" alongside "recall 2026 toyota camry," which is what sent me to pull this data in the first place. I don't have NHTSA recall or complaint records for a 2027 Camry, because there isn't a 2027 model year in NHTSA's catalog yet. When one shows up, it will get the same treatment as every other year here.
