The 2027 Chevy Bolt Returns: Price, Range and Battery

Chevrolet's newsroom prices the 2027 Bolt at $28,995 with 262 miles of EPA-estimated range; NHTSA's records show the recall history of the Bolt EV it replaces.

Chevrolet's newsroom lists a starting price of $28,995 (including a $1,395 destination charge) for the base 2027 Bolt, an EPA-estimated range of 262 miles from a 65-kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, and a 150-kW peak fast-charging rate that reaches 10% to 80% in 25 minutes; GM confirmed on April 22, 2026 that it was on dealer lots.

Chevrolet brought the Bolt back for the 2027 model year at $28,995 with destination and an EPA-estimated 262 miles of range, after the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV ended with the 2023 model year. The 2027 Bolt is now on sale, and Chevrolet's newsroom has also published a battery chemistry and a charging spec for it. Some of those figures changed after the October 2025 reveal, and the discontinued Bolt EV left an NHTSA and EPA record to compare against.

What does Chevrolet's own newsroom say the 2027 Bolt costs?

Two different LT prices appear in Chevrolet's own materials, from two different points in time.

Confirmed current, April 2026 LT $28,995 GM News

Chevrolet's October 2025 release said the launch-model LT would start at $29,990, including a $1,395 destination charge. It also said "later in the model year, an even more affordable LT will be available" at $28,995, also including that same $1,395 charge. GM's newsroom confirmed on April 22, 2026 that $28,995 is now the LT's starting price. Chevrolet also lists an RS trim for 2027, but Chevrolet's newsroom doesn't list a separate price for it.

Is the 262-mile range figure EPA-tested or Chevrolet's estimate?

It changed, and the newsroom page says so. At the October 2025 reveal, Chevrolet quoted a GM-estimated 255 miles of range, since EPA testing wasn't finished yet. The same page carries a January 12, 2026 editor's note reading "Final specifications for the 2027 Chevy Bolt added," and everywhere the page mentioned 255 GM-estimated miles, it now reads 262 EPA-estimated miles instead. GM's April 22, 2026 "officially back on dealer lots" piece repeats the 262-mile EPA figure.

The battery underneath that range is new to the Bolt: a 65-kWh pack using Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry, in prismatic can cells, replacing the previous Bolt's battery chemistry.

How fast does the 2027 Bolt charge, and when did it reach dealers?

Chevrolet's spec sheet lists a 150-kW peak DC fast-charging rate, reaching 10% to 80% charge in 25 minutes on a public DC fast charger; the same October 2025 announcement originally quoted 26 minutes for that same 10%-to-80% figure, before the January 2026 update. Chevrolet says the 2027 Bolt is its first model with a native NACS charging port.

GM's newsroom confirmed on April 22, 2026 that the car was "officially back on dealer lots," shipping from the Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas.

What does NHTSA's recall record show for the Bolt EV it replaces?

RideTruth's recall data for the 2020 Chevrolet Bolt EV, one model year of the outgoing generation, lists 8 NHTSA recall campaigns on file.

Timeline of the 8 NHTSA recall campaigns on file for the 2020 Chevrolet Bolt EV, from a March 2020 door-latch recall to an October 2024 traction-battery recall.
Campaign Filed Component
20V184000 Mar 26, 2020 Door latch
20V808000 Dec 22, 2020 Brake caliper
20V811000 Dec 23, 2020 Seat belts
21V650000 Aug 20, 2021 Traction battery
22V930000 Dec 15, 2022 Roof and pillars
23V845000 Dec 14, 2023 Roof and pillars
24V481000 Jun 27, 2024 Traction battery
24V812000 Oct 31, 2024 Traction battery

Three of those 8 campaigns, filed between August 2021 and October 2024, name the same NHTSA component: "electrical system: propulsion system: traction battery." NHTSA's record doesn't say why that component drew three separate campaigns instead of one, and this list can't answer that either. Across the full outgoing generation, owners filed 971 NHTSA complaints on the Bolt EV from 2017 through 2023, and another 144 on the shorter-lived Bolt EUV across its two model years, 2022 and 2023. Each complaint is a single owner's report, not a confirmed defect, and neither total is adjusted for how many of each Chevrolet sold.

How does the 2027 Bolt's EPA rating compare with the old Bolt EV's, in MPGe?

EPA rates the 2027 Bolt at 120 MPGe combined, RideTruth's catalog shows.

Panel chart of EPA combined MPGe by model year for the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Bolt EUV and the 2027 Bolt: 119 MPGe for the 2017-2019 Bolt EV, 118 for 2020-2021, 120 for 2022-2023; 115 for the 2022-2023 Bolt EUV; 120 for the 2027 Bolt.

That 120 MPGe combined rating is not a new high for the nameplate: it's the same figure EPA gave the 2022 and 2023 Bolt EV. Earlier Bolt EV model years rated lower: 119 MPGe combined for 2017 through 2019, and 118 for 2020 and 2021. The Bolt EUV rated lower still, 115 MPGe combined for both its model years. On EPA's MPGe measure, the returning Bolt matches the best rating its predecessor ever posted.

Chevrolet still hasn't published an RS price. A 2027 Bolt saved in your garage can be checked for new recall campaigns as NHTSA posts them.

Common questions

Is the 2027 Chevy Bolt's 262-mile range an EPA rating or Chevrolet's estimate?

It's an EPA rating now. Chevrolet's October 2025 reveal quoted a GM-estimated 255 miles, before EPA testing was finished; the newsroom page added a January 12, 2026 editor's note with the final, EPA-estimated figure of 262 miles. GM's April 22, 2026 dealer-lots article repeats it.

How much does the 2027 Chevy Bolt cost?

$28,995, including a $1,395 destination charge, for the LT trim, per GM's April 2026 newsroom confirmation. The launch-model LT that shipped first was priced higher, at $29,990 including the same destination charge; Chevrolet said at the October 2025 reveal that a more affordable LT would follow later in the model year, and $28,995 is that price. Chevrolet's newsroom doesn't list a separate starting price for the new RS trim.

Did the old Chevy Bolt EV have a battery recall?

NHTSA's record for the 2020 Chevrolet Bolt EV lists 8 recall campaigns, three of them for the traction battery: campaign 21V650000 (filed August 20, 2021), 24V481000 (June 27, 2024) and 24V812000 (October 31, 2024). The record doesn't say why the same component drew three separate campaigns between 2021 and 2024; that's a question for Chevrolet, not something this list can answer.

When did the 2027 Chevy Bolt actually go on sale?

GM's newsroom confirmed on April 22, 2026 that the Bolt was "officially back on dealer lots," shipping from the Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas.
