The 2009 Infiniti G37 has the most NHTSA complaints of the 2008 through 2013 G37 model years, 165 of the 533 on file as of October 14, 2026, and Airbags & Restraints is the area owners named most often, 87 times. The recall record points elsewhere: the 2009 has no campaign on file, while the 2008, 2011 and 2012 have one apiece. Each of those 533 is a report filed with NHTSA and counted as filed; none has been matched to a repair record or divided by how many G37s were sold. Use the counts to decide what to check on a used G37, not to rule a year in or out.
Which G37 model year has the most recall campaigns on file?
None of them leads alone. The 2008, 2011 and 2012 have one campaign each, and the 2009, 2010 and 2013 have none. RideTruth's list is current to October 14, 2026, and NHTSA's own recall API, queried for each of the six years on October 15, 2026, returned the same campaigns.
| Model year | Campaigns on file | Campaign | Filed | NHTSA component |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2008 | 1 | 08V521000 | Oct 7, 2008 | Air bags |
| 2009 | 0 | none | ||
| 2010 | 0 | none | ||
| 2011 | 1 | 11V538000 | Nov 4, 2011 | Visibility: power window devices and controls |
| 2012 | 1 | 11V538000 | Nov 4, 2011 | Visibility: power window devices and controls |
| 2013 | 0 | none |
Nissan North America filed 08V521000. NHTSA lists a potential 204,361 vehicles in it, spread across several Nissan and Infiniti models, and the G37 in Nissan's summary is the 2008 coupe. Nissan says an occupant classification system control unit in the passenger seat cushion may have been built out of specification. That could interrupt its signal to the air bag control unit and leave the passenger air bag suppressed in a crash. The remedy Nissan describes is a dealer signal test and, if needed, a replacement seat cushion.
Campaign 11V538000, also filed by Nissan North America, is one campaign that lists two model years. It covers certain 2011 and 2012 G37 coupes and certain 2011 Nissan 370Z cars built July 2 through August 29, 2011, a potential 1,788 vehicles in all. Nissan says a programming error left the power window switch controller out of specification, so the auto-reverse threshold is higher than intended and a body part caught in a closing window could be pinched. Dealers replace the switches at no charge. For the G37, both summaries name only the coupe.
How do the 2008 through 2013 G37 years compare on NHTSA complaints?
RideTruth's data holds 533 complaints across the 2008 through 2013 years. The 2009 has 165 and the 2011 has 99. The 2010 has 77, the 2008 has 66, and the 2012 and 2013 have 63 each.
| Model year | NHTSA complaints |
|---|---|
| 2008 | 66 |
| 2009 | 165 |
| 2010 | 77 |
| 2011 | 99 |
| 2012 | 63 |
| 2013 | 63 |
The 2008 and 2009 sit side by side in the table, with 66 and then 165, so the jump from one year to the next is large. The data does not say why, and it holds no sales figure that would show whether more 2009 cars reached the road.
What do the 2009 G37's complaints name most often?
Airbags & Restraints, in 87 of the 165 (52.7%). The next areas are Engine at 23 (13.9%), Other at 20 (12.1%), Body, Seats & Latches at 18 (10.9%) and Transmission & Drivetrain at 17 (10.3%). NHTSA's form marks 2 of the 87 Airbags & Restraints complaints as involving a crash and 1 as involving an injury; none is marked as a fire or a death.
The 2011, second on the count, leads with the same area: Airbags & Restraints in 51 of its 99 complaints (51.5%), then Body, Seats & Latches at 18 (18.2%) and Other at 15 (15.2%). An owner can pick more than one area on a complaint, so one complaint can count in several rows, and the label records which system the owner chose, not what failed.

The 2009 has no recall campaign on file, air bag or otherwise. RideTruth's data does not say what the 2009's air bag complaints describe, so this post does not tie them to Nissan's 2008 campaign, which names the 2008 coupe. The photo above was taken in February 2011, and its Commons file describes the coupe as an IPL. The file gives no model year, so it illustrates the G37 coupe, not a particular year's car.
What fuel economy does EPA list for each G37 year?
EPA's estimates for the G37, all on premium gasoline, stay in a narrow band from year to year. Each range below spans the configurations EPA lists for that year.
| Model year | Combined mpg | City mpg | Highway mpg |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2008 | 20 | 17 to 18 | 24 to 26 |
| 2009 | 19 to 21 | 16 to 18 | 24 to 26 |
| 2010 | 19 to 22 | 16 to 19 | 24 to 27 |
| 2011 | 19 to 22 | 16 to 19 | 24 to 26 |
| 2012 | 19 to 22 | 16 to 19 | 24 to 26 |
| 2013 | 19 to 22 | 16 to 19 | 24 to 26 |

For a 2008, 2011 or 2012 coupe, typing its VIN into NHTSA's recall lookup shows whether 08V521000 or 11V538000 names that car. Your garage saves the car and checks it for new NHTSA recall campaigns when you open it.
